Maine Vacation Rental Description

Secluded, with only the stillness of nature surrounding you, you have all the privacy you could dream of. Located on a dead-end road you are set back far enough from the road so that nothing interferes with the tranquility of your stay. Locke Pond can be seen through the trees from the porch and along a naturally landscaped wooded path the waterfront is only a short 100 foot stroll from the house. Following the gently sloping wooded walkway as you wander down to the water’s edge you will pass a bench or two and a small tenting area you could use if camping is your thing. Upon arriving at the dock and shoreline you will find 2 kayaks, a canoe and a pedal-boat to take out for exploring. Locke Pond is about 1 mile long by ½ mile wide which makes it 134 total acres and is approximately 18 feet at it's deepest. Fishing, swimming and watching the sun rise and set are just a few of the water activities you might chose from. Since Locke Pond has good fishing, you can expect to pull in large mouth bass, perch, sunfish and pickerel. Most people practice “catch and release” but certainly you can take your fish home and fry them up if that’s what you like to do! In Maine a fishing license is required and can be purchased locally (for the duration of your stay) or online.

This roomy camp has 2 bedrooms with ample additional sleeping spots and a fully appointed eat in kitchen(washer/dryer, fridge, toaster oven, microwave, coffeemaker. A spacious living room(includes a romantic fireplace opens onto a lovely wrap around porch/deck. With the shade of the trees all around you and the large airy rooms there is no need for air-conditioning to cut yourself off from the sounds of nature. Should it get chilly there is a new furnace to keep you cozy. Board games, books and a VCR/DVD player with an adequate movie library (feel free to bring your own) will provide entertainment when you have had your fill of the outdoors, if you ever do. There is also dial-up Internet if you need to check and send emails. However if your idea of fun would be to spend the week online - the connection is slow and you might decide being on the water or walking in nature is far more entertaining!

Vacationing here at Locke Pond is truly a chance to get away from the typically busy lives many of us lead. There are no jet skis or busy water parks … although there are a few good ice cream stands, as long as you don’t mind driving 15 to 20 minutes. There are 2 grocery stores to chose from, but no malls. The town of Farmington (University of Maine Farmington has it’s campus in the heart of the downtown) is a mere 25 minute drive and has a number of eating and shopping spots as does the smaller town of Wilton located 15 minutes from your front door. (Boston is 3 and a half hours away.) There is a very reasonably priced movie theater in Farmington with all the latest features. You will find that here at Locke Pond there is so much beauty in nature to be enjoyed that the need for the busy stimulation of the “outside world” just seems to disappear. A vacation on Locke Pond will leave you feeling rejuvenated and at peace.
